I explore the history of visual and material culture in the initial stages of early modernity, primarily in the case of Japan.
I also analyse historical maps as rich sources of insights on the worldviews, knowledge and material culture of the past.
In addition, I am interested in the reception of ‘Japan’ in the West, and various other topics.
